I guess it’s because of my upbringing and thanks to the values instilled in me by my parents; I am not one of those people. I take pride in considering myself an honest and trustworthy person.

I have been looking into everything that I could find about making money online and as I mentioned previously, there is no quick and easy money making secret. Like any other business or job, you have to put in the time before you can experience the fruits of your labor.

There are however a few things that I can recommend to you that will save you time and money, and if you have the correct tools you will be on your way a lot faster.

First of all, the most important thing that you need to know is the niche that you will be working with and then get the correct domain name that you will apply to that niche. Assuming that you know what niche you are going to target, you will need some tools to start your online business.

The tools that I will be discussing are the following:

Google Keyword Tool

Namecheap

Hostgator

WordPress

The domain name that you select should be well thought out before you buy it. Here is a short article that you should read before selecting your domain name. This is very important because the better your domain name, the easier search engines will find it and the more visitors you will get to see your website.

After you have read the article about domain names, play around with the Google Keyword Tool to come up with the right domain name for your niche.

To get to my point, about a week ago a reader of one of my Blogs contacted me in email and mentioned that I should contact him because there is an opportunity that I might be interested in.

He seemed like a nice person and I called him, not knowing anything about what he was talking about.  It turned out that we were both in Iraq in fact at the same base so we had something in common to talk about. We talked enough to get to know a little about each other and feel comfortable with our conversation.

The bottom line is, this individual pitched me on a Multi Level Marketing opportunity that is just starting to hit all over the country and he said that after reading my Blog he really liked my style and could tell that I really cared about people and that I would do very well in the business that he was referring to.

I’m not going to mention his name here or what MLM company he pitched me on. He gave me his sales pitch and I was going along with him. It sounded interesting and everyone, including myself is interested in making money.

(Just so you know, I have tried a few Multi Level Marketing companies in my life and was never successful at any of them, but I do believe in the concept. I firmly believe that if they have a good product that you believe in and intend to use, you can be successful with it.)

After our initial contact we talked on the phone a few times; he sent me some information to me in email and guided me towards a few websites that would answer most of my questions. I told him that I was sincerely interested, which I was and that I would look into it.

To make a long story short, I did my research and Googled everything I could about the company as well as the market for their products. Of course when we do something like that we will hear both sides of the story.

Some people think the whole thing is a scam and a rip-off, while others, who are active distributors or who know someone who is doing it have nothing but good things to say about it. Giving it the benefit of the doubt, I told my potential sponsor that on September 1^st, which is today I was going to sign up and do this.

For whatever reason, he told me that he wanted me to talk to someone before I did anything, and that he would set up a conference call so that the three of us could talk.

He dialed the phone, it rang a few times and then someone picked it up. When the person answered, my sponsor told him that I was also on the line and that I was going to sign up today.

The person introduced himself and started talking about the company and how much money I could make. In his brief but fast conversation he actually said that I could “make $900,000.00 a month if I worked hard” at this venture.

From the moment that those words came out of his mouth, I was turned off and a red light went off in my head. All he talked about was the commissions and the money I will be making and how easy it is to make money etc. He said nothing about his product or the service that they provide their members and customers. It was all about the money and the upline.

Well let me tell you my friend, when someone tells you that you can make $900,000.00 a month, BEWARE. You have to be pretty naïve to believe something like that from a person who has never even met you before.

There is no free money out there and to make that kind of money, which is not impossible, in fact some people are making that, a person needs to work hard and know what he or she is doing.

After a five minute conversation I hung up the phone and I did more research on the company. After the phone call I became skeptical and I found enough information that convinced me that I do not want to be a part of this company. Nowhere on the company website did I come across information that claimed the possibility of making $900,000.00 in a month yet the person who said this is the sponsor of my sponsor and training him. Nope, this was not for me.

Why am I telling you this? The number one reason is tell you to be careful who you meet on the Internet. The Internet is a very powerful tool and it can make a person a lot of money, but on the other hand it is also a dangerous place. You never know who you’re going to meet.

There are many scams and rip-off artists who want to separate you from your money. People want to get to your personal information and get into your bank accounts to steal your money and even your identity. Some people just want to recruit you for something.

I was almost at the point where I was going to sign up for this Multi Level Marketing venture when the $900,000.00 monthly stopped me in my tracks. I feel bad for the person who was going to sponsor me because I was moments away from signing up.

Throughout my experience on the Internet, I can honestly tell you that I have not made a lot of money, but I have also not ripped anybody off, not only on the Internet but in real life. I’m not here to scam you or anyone else. I’m certain that my sponsor is a nice guy but the person on the phone turned me off.

The Internet and every other avenue that one uses to generate an income work by the same rules. If you offer a good product and service people will buy it. IF they buy from you and you service them, then they will come back, or if not, they will recommend you to others. Word of mouth is the best sort of advertisement out there.

Keep plugging away and don’t give up on your dreams of hitting it big. Keep persevering and your tenacity will get you to where you want to be and don’t trust everybody!

I have two other Blogs that I also narrate. One has to do with my expertise about linguists working in support of the military, “Terps”, and my other blog is “JokesNWisdom” which is a compilation of jokes and stories that I have been collecting online since 1996.

Those two other blogs have been giving me the experience and knowledge that it takes to become a successful blogger. I’m not yet making any money on either blog yet, not directly anyways, but indirectly “Terps” has made me a few thousand dollars because people send me emails wanting to work for the military as a linguist or translator and I get paid for recruiting them.

With “JokesNWisdom” I have not yet made any money. I did have Google Adsense ads on that blog but I took it off. After listening to a few professional affiliate marketers I decided to wait a little longer and instead of Adsense, I will add some affiliate links instead. The only reason I have not done that yet is I have not had the time to research what affiliates I want to establish a relationship with. I want to make sure that I find the product that I believe in and would use myself before I just start selling something for the sake of making a dollar.

I religiously add a minimum of one but usually two or three jokes to “JokesNWisdom” everyday. Everyone that is successful at blogging claims that continuous quality input to a blog will eventually lead to success.  I’ll let you know in a few months because I have been doing that since day one.

As far as the statistics for my blogs, including this one, I am getting between 350 to 500 visitors a month on each one. I see a trend of slowly but surely increasing every month and that has been without any marketing whatsoever.

As I mentioned before, I am ethical and only want to market quality products. Money is important but that is not the most important thing that matters. Being honest and trustworthy will pay off in the long run…I’m certain of that.

So, to summarize what I have said here so far is the following:

1. Input valuable content to your blog every day.
2. Have patience and don’t rush it. (don’t quit your day job)
3. Be honest and ethical.
4. Don’t give up. Only the strong survive. Tenacity will win every time.

I was once again reminded that the only person that I can depend on is myself and my family. Everyone else has their own problems and life situation. This of course is not bad news but another reality check that one must get from time to time

My new blog “Terps” has been keeping me busy and is evidence that even though I know a great deal about the topic, to write good content is not that easy. As I learn new tricks or mental motivators I will pass them on here, but it is just plain not easy.

I guess if it was then everyone would be doing it and we would all be rich. I’ve learned in the past few months that there is an over abundance of information out there that can drive one crazy.

I have numerous email addresses that are used for reasons and one that I have is overloaded with information that I am sent on a daily basis. I don’t want to erase the message because I want to read the valuable content in each one of them but I am just inundated.

I’m also surprised that one of the most successful bloggers out there has some of the worst material of the whole lot. I don’t want to erase him yet because I’m hoping to learn something from him but basically all he does is send me his emails and try’s to sell me on his affiliate programs, many of which I think are useless.

Working out of one’s home and having your children around when school is out is also challenging to deal with. Children do not understand that just because I’m home that I have to work. It can be frustrating sometime.

On the other hand working from home is the greatest benefit that I have working for myself. I wouldn’t change it for anything.

I’m still tweaking my blog, this one as well as “Terps” The Nationwide Hearing Services Blog. There is really so much to do and there are so many distractions that a person has to really be focused to make a blog or website successful.

Blogging and online success go hand in hand but success is not guaranteed. I am starting to understand why it will take many months before I experience the fruits of my labor. Content is king and quality content takes time to compile. Of course some people are better at it than others so it’s an individual thing but it does take time. It’s no different than writing a book chapter by chapter and day by day.

At this stage of my blog venture my conclusion so far about “Online Prosperity Analysis” is that successful bloggers write about what they know and what interests them. They add as much quality content as possible and once they get their readership up to a few thousand they monetize the blog by adding affiliate links and advertisement.

Makes sense to me.

The name of my new blog is TERPS which is a reference to interpreters that work with the military. Talk about a niche, I think I found one that should go a long way.

As you will read in my blog, I have lots of experience working with translators and now I am going to put that knowledge and experience to use.

Actually, the way this came about was one of my co-workers that I worked with in the past contacted me and asked if I can help his company find people that speak Polish as well as English and would be willing to go to Afghanistan within a week.

I thought about it and since he was also offering me a finder’s fee to do it, I was determined to find a solution to his problem.

That afternoon I sent out approximately 1000 emails that I have in a database and I contacted organizations that I found online that were somehow affiliated with the Polish community.

Within three days I found not one but seven people that were qualified for the job, and two were willing to leave immediately.

Mission accomplished.

I found the people but of course life is not that simple and the work is just about to begin. The selected individual now has to pass a rigorous physical examination as well as an intensive security screening.

Once the person deploys to Afghanistan I have to wait until he is in theater for 30 days before I get paid. The reason for this is just in case he arrives in Kandahar and does not like it there and decides to quit I won’t get paid. This of course makes sense, but let me tell you right here and now that I believe that that is highly unlikely.

Why, because the salary for one year is $210,000.00. That is a lot of money, plus since he is overseas, the first $82,000.00 is also tax free. That is one heck of a motivator.

In case you know anyone that is a US citizen and speaks Arabic, Pashtu, Farsi or Dari have them contact me at my Terp blog. Maybe I can get them a job if they also meet the necessary requirements.

Now I don’t want to limit myself only to those languages that I just mentioned. I am interested in anyone who is a US citizen who speaks a second language fluently. Have them send me an email and I will get back with them.

In our global economy people that speak a second language have an advantage in today’s jobs market.
